St Kilda Penguins Moulting Is Here

There are very few penguins in St Kilda at the moment. Just a few late chicks who will hopefully be fed to maturity. All the penguins are out feeding up to get twice the normal weight ready to spend two to three weeks losing their old feathers and getting brand new ones. This is also the time of the year when old penguins or those that are not quite fit enough die. They cannot withstand the stresses of moult. These will be the ones you see that are totally white. Just leave them alone and let them die peacefully. Its part of the natural life cycle and these are wild penguins even though they live in the city.
