Earthcare St Kilda and the St Kilda Penguins website welcome enquiries from visitors, researchers, volunteers, school groups, journalists and anyone with a question about the colony.

General Enquiries

For general questions about visiting the penguins, the colony, volunteer opportunities or the research programme, the best starting point is email:

Email: team@stkildapenguins.com.au

We try to respond to general enquiries within a week. During periods of high demand — the breeding season, the annual moult and school holidays — responses can take longer.

Volunteering

If you would like to volunteer with Earthcare St Kilda — either as a penguin guide at the viewing area, a research volunteer helping with the long-running colony monitoring programme, or in another supporting role — the How Can I Help page has the most up-to-date information and contact details for the volunteer coordinator.

Media and Research Enquiries

Journalists, documentary crews, photographers and researchers who want to film, interview or cite the colony’s work should contact us in advance. Filming at the viewing area is subject to strict conditions to protect the penguins, and unplanned media visits frequently cannot be accommodated on the night.

Please include in your enquiry: the publication or broadcaster you are working with, the purpose of the coverage, the equipment you want to bring and the dates under consideration. We will respond as quickly as we can.

Visiting in Person

There is no staffed office at the breakwater. If you want to speak to a penguin guide in person, the best opportunity is during evening viewing at sunset when the volunteer guide programme is operating. Guides can answer visitor questions on the spot but cannot respond to formal media or volunteer enquiries while on duty.

Mail

For postal correspondence — including donation cheques, formal notices or written submissions — please use the postal address below. Due to volunteer turnaround times, posted correspondence will typically take two to three weeks to be acknowledged.

PO Box listings and the registered postal address are available on request via team@stkildapenguins.com.au.

What We Cannot Help With

We are not the land manager for St Kilda Pier or the breakwater itself — that is Parks Victoria. For pier access, boardwalk issues, lost property or concerns about the pier structure, please contact Parks Victoria directly. The City of Port Phillip handles foreshore parkland and surrounding streets.

We are also not a wildlife rescue service. If you find an injured little penguin or other wildlife anywhere in Victoria, please contact Wildlife Victoria on 03 8400 7300, which is staffed 24 hours a day.
